A Health Spending Account (HSA) allows employer(s) and or their employee(s) to be reimbursed for Health Care expenses that are usually covered by a Traditional Group Health Care plan. This plan can be purchased for owners as an individual product or for one or more employees. To be eligible expenses must be considered tax deductible by Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). The employer is able to offer employees many of the advantages of a traditional plan, but is not bound by the conventions or costs involved with those types of plans. You decide the value, plan design, limitations and exclusions of the H.S.A. (e.g. $250 per person per 24 months for eye exams and glasses/contact lenses). Unused balances can be carried forward one year only. An HSA must be administered by a third party to qualify as a private health services plan under CRA standards.
