    Music is powerful. It possesses the unique ability to awaken memories, to impact physiological functioning, and to evoke emotional responses.
    Music Therapy Services of Simcoe County works with clients of all ages and with a variety of needs or diagnoses. Many of our clients are in long-term care facilities and group homes across Simcoe County, and we offer a variety of individual and group services at clinic located in Barrie, Ontario.
    What is Music Therapy? Music therapy is the skillful use of music and musical elements by an accredited music therapist to promote, maintain, and restore mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health. Music has nonverbal creative, structural, and emotional qualities. These are used in the therapeutic relationship to facilitate contact, interaction, self-awareness, learning, self-expression, communication, and personal development. (Canadian Association for Music Therapy, 1994)
    Who is a Music Therapist? Music therapists are accomplished musicians who have a university degree in music therapy. They are trained to use music as a tool to positively impact a clientâ??s wellbeing. Music therapists are accredited (MTA) with the Canadian Association for Music Therapy and music therapists working in Ontario will be eligible to apply to the College of Registered Psychotherapists in 2014.
